Bene Beach

Bene Beach (Split)

Bene Beach is one of the better-known Marjan beaches in Split, located on the northeastern side of Marjan, within the Marjan Forest Park. Situated in Bene Bay, it offers a sense of retreat from the city bustle, even though it remains within the urban area. The name of the bay is associated with the former Church of St. Benedict, whose remains have been archaeologically explored and preserved.

The beach is partly sandy and surrounded by dense pine forest that provides natural shade. Along the shore stretches a long shallow area with a gradual entrance into the sea, making Bene a pleasant choice even during the peak summer heat. Thanks to its more natural setting, Bene is especially popular during the summer, particularly among those seeking a quieter pace in the shade of Marjan.

During the summer season, basic beach amenities are available at Bene, such as sunbed and umbrella rentals, showers, and changing cabins, making a day at the beach comfortable and convenient for a full-day stay.

Activities: swimming and sunbathing in a natural setting, recreation on nearby sports courts such as tennis and five-a-side football, as well as spending time at children’s playgrounds in the shade of the pine forest. Bene is particularly suitable for families and anyone looking to combine swimming with light recreational activities in a მშვიდ atmosphere.

There are cafés and restaurants next to the beach where you can refresh yourself with a cold drink or a light meal, while spacious plateaus and forested areas provide plenty of room to relax during warm days.

In summer, Bene maintains a relaxed, family-friendly atmosphere—without city crowds or intense nightlife—making it an excellent choice for those seeking an active yet peaceful day by the sea.

Where to stay:

If you’re looking for accommodation in Split near Bene Beach, a great choice is apartments and holiday homes in the Meje and Marjan area, offering a quieter setting and close proximity to nature. These locations are ideal for anyone who wants to stay near the beach while avoiding city crowds.

A practical option is also apartments in the Varoš and Spinut neighborhoods, from where Bene can be reached on foot or with a short drive. If you’d like to combine a seaside stay with proximity to the old town, consider accommodation in the center of Split, especially if having a wide selection of restaurants and amenities within easy reach is important to you.

The simplest way: on adriatic.hr, filter Split and select apartments near Marjan on the map. This way you can quickly find accommodation near Bene that best suits you.

Where to eat:

Here are several tried-and-tested options (in the Marjan, Meje area and towards the city center):

  • Restaurant Bene (Marjan) – a convenient option right next to the beach; simple dishes, pizza, pasta, and drinks in the shade of pine trees.
  • Kat’s Kitchen Deli (Meje) – a small but highly rated bistro with creative dishes and fresh ingredients; ideal for a light lunch.
  • Teatar (Meje) – a restaurant with a lovely terrace and sea view; Mediterranean cuisine and a relaxed atmosphere.
  • Adriatic Grašo (Zvončac) – a seaside restaurant known for fish dishes and classic Dalmatian cuisine.
  • Konoba Fetivi (Varoš) – a Dalmatian classic with fresh fish; often mentioned in the Michelin Guide.
  • Konoba Matejuška (Varoš) – a family-run tavern focused on seafood and local flair, just steps from the Riva promenade.
  • Bokeria Kitchen & Wine (Old Town) – a more modern menu and excellent wine list; very popular (reservation recommended).
  • Fife (Matejuška) – a relaxed and more affordable option with generous portions, great for lunch after a day at the beach.

What to see:

  • Marjan Forest Park: Split’s green oasis with numerous walking trails, viewpoints, and panoramic views of the city and islands – perfect for a light stroll before or after the beach.

  • Marjan Viewpoint (Prva Vidilica): one of Split’s most famous viewpoints, offering spectacular views of the old town, the harbor, and the surrounding islands.

  • Ivan Meštrović Gallery: located by the sea on the southern slopes of Marjan, dedicated to Croatia’s most renowned sculptor and combining art with a beautiful setting.

  • Church of St. Nicholas on Marjan: a small historic church surrounded by nature, part of the peninsula’s rich cultural heritage.

  • Split Old Town and Diocletian’s Palace (UNESCO): the historic city center with the Peristyle, ancient cellars, and lively stone streets, just a few minutes’ drive from Bene.

Bonus “quick and easy”: take a walk along one of Marjan’s trails at sunset – the view of Split and the islands bathed in golden light is one of the most beautiful sights in the city.

What to do:

  • Swimming and sunbathing in the natural setting of pine trees, with a shallow sea entrance suitable for spending longer periods in the water.

  • Recreational sports – tennis, five-a-side football, and other activities on the sports courts within the Bene area.

  • Family day in nature – children’s playgrounds and spacious forest areas are ideal for a relaxed stay with kids.

  • Walking and cycling on Marjan – numerous trails lead through the forest park to attractive viewpoints overlooking Split and the islands.

  • Relaxing in the shade – take a break from the sun with light refreshments at a nearby café or restaurant.

  • Panorama photography – a short walk to Marjan’s viewpoints offers one of the most beautiful views of the city.

  • Exploring Marjan’s southern coves – combine your day at Bene with a visit to nearby beaches and hidden corners of the peninsula.

Other information:

Bene is especially popular during the summer months, but thanks to the spacious pine forest and the larger overall area, the feeling of crowding is less noticeable than on city beaches in the center. In July and August, it is recommended to arrive earlier in the day, especially if you plan to use the nearby parking, as capacity fills up quickly. The sea is generally calm with a gradual entrance, making it suitable for families with children and recreational swimmers.

Due to its natural surroundings and location within the forest park, visitors are advised to respect nature conservation rules and keep the area clean. If you have photos or videos from Bene, feel free to share them – we’ll be happy to publish them.
