It is a rare combination in European tourism: one beach that offers both a family day by the sea and one of the continent’s most recognisable open-air festival experiences. Families with children in the morning, paddleboarding in the afternoon and hundreds of people beneath the spotlights after midnight.
Located on the western coast of the island of Pag, around 3 km from the centre of Novalja, this approximately 1.5 km-long pebble bay has gradually built its reputation over the past two decades. With the opening of the first clubs in the early 2000s and the arrival of British festivals — particularly Hideout in 2011 — Zrće was transformed from a local bay into an internationally recognised party tourism brand.
The British newspaper Mirror called it the “new Ibiza” — a destination offering a first-class party experience at a considerably lower price than its Spanish counterpart.
Facing the open sea with views of the Velebit mountain range, the beach is a swimming bay by day, with crystal-clear water, a gradual entry into the sea and pleasant water temperatures throughout the season. After dusk, the same pebbles become the setting for the Papaya, Noa, Aquarius, Kalypso and Euphoria clubs, which remain open until sunrise during the peak season.
The seasonal festival calendar — Hideout, Sonus, Fresh Island and Spring Break Europe — attracts tens of thousands of visitors each year, with guests from the United Kingdom, Germany, Poland and the Netherlands forming the largest groups. By car
The local road from the centre of Novalja leads directly to the main car park. During peak season, the car park is often full by 11 am — arriving earlier is recommended.
Seasonal shuttle bus
The seasonal bus service departs from the centre of Novalja every 30 minutes during the day, with night services also operating during festival weeks. It is the most popular option among visitors without a car.
Taxi and ride-sharing
The best option for returning from the clubs at night — local taxi services operate 24/7 during the season. Book in advance during festival weeks, as the wait for a return journey can take 30–60 minutes.
Prizna – Žigljen ferry
The Prizna → Žigljen ferry operated by Jadrolinija runs throughout the year, with departures every 30–60 minutes during the season, and costs €18 for a car up to 5 m long. Zrće is around 20 km from Žigljen, or you can arrive by road via Pag Bridge from Zadar County.

Swimming and bathing
Crystal-clear sea with a gradual entry and pebble seabed. Ideal for a morning swim before the crowds arrive — the water is calmest between 8 and 10 am.
SUP & paddleboarding
Boards can be hired beside the beach for paddling along the coast or visiting neighbouring bays. Caska is around a 30-minute paddle north for those seeking some peace and quiet.
Jet skiing, parasailing and banana boats
Classic water sports for groups — jet skiing along the coast, parasailing with views of the island of Pag and banana boat rides for 4–8 people.
Sunbathing with sun lounger hire
With no natural shade, hiring sun loungers and parasols is almost essential. Beach clubs manage the hire by sector — different “zones” have different music and atmospheres.
Beach bars and lunch
Cocktails, light lunches and fast food — beach bars are open from morning until late at night. Prices are higher than in Novalja, but the atmosphere is part of the experience.
Day party atmosphere

Arrive early in July and August
During peak season, the car park fills up by 11 am. Arriving at around 9 am means a better spot on the beach and avoiding the lunchtime queues.
Water shoes are essential
The pebbles are large in some areas and become hot in the sun. It is a small investment that protects your feet throughout the day.
Bring both a card and cash
Most clubs and bars accept cards, but smaller stands and parasol hire often accept cash only. The number of ATMs on the beach is limited.
