Cycling in Croatia | Bike Trails on the Dalmatian Islands
December 8, 2025Croatia, with its indented Adriatic coastline, is widely known for its numerous islands. For many, islands are favorite dream vacation destinations. Surrounded by the sea on all sides, with beautiful, untouched beaches – islands are a timeless inspiration for summer holidays.
Although the Adriatic is popular for its islands, we’ll introduce you to some lesser-known island oases in Croatia. Many haven’t heard of them (though we believe some certainly have), yet they hide magical natural treasures and are ideal destinations for a summer getaway!
- LASTOVO – a remote island, "unspoiled" by crowds, offers an authentic Adriatic experience. The beauty of its nature is confirmed by the fact that Lastovo Island, along with the nearby islands, has been declared a nature park. Stunning coves and vegetation, an almost native ambiance, and local cuisine guarantee an unforgettable summer vacation!
- MLJET – one of Croatia’s greenest islands hides fascinating natural beauty. Part of the island is a protected national park where you can stay, cycle, swim in the “sea lakes,” while the other side of the island boasts beautiful sandy beaches.
- VIS – formerly a Greek colony named Issa, today Vis Island, will captivate you with its beauty. Be sure to visit its three sea caves, including the world-renowned Blue Cave. The island, isolated for 45 years due to military restrictions, has preserved its untouched natural beauty, including the famous Stiniva and Zaglav beaches. You’ll also enjoy the simplicity and relaxed vibe of the local atmosphere during an unforgettable vacation.
- DUGI OTOK – another in a series of islands with fascinating nature. On the southeastern part of the island lies the Telašćica Nature Park where scenes of beautiful beaches and dramatic cliffs alternate, and where one of the rare saltwater lakes, Lake Mir, can be found. In addition to the island’s natural beauty, the stunning Kornati National Park is also nearby.
- SUSAK – a very special island to end our list! On Susak, it’s not just the beaches that are sandy – the entire island is a sandy oasis. With no paved roads, the island is crisscrossed with sandy paths. Poorly connected to the mainland, staying here is a truly authentic experience. A vacation on Susak is a unique experience without equal!
