8 tourism trends that will change the way you travel in 2026.
December 15, 2025The island of Hvar is known as a top tourist destination for party lovers and world-famous celebrities. However, along its shores, the island hides beautiful pebble and sandy beaches that may captivate visitors even more. Families with children will enjoy the sandy and pebble beaches on the northern side of the island, while adventurers will find their perfect spots on the southern side. This time, we have selected 6 beaches on the island of Hvar that we are sure you will love.
Maslinica (near Stari Grad)
Although the beaches of Stari Grad are not as popular as those around the town of Hvar, there are several that certainly deserve the attention of both domestic and international guests. One of them is Maslinica, named after the bay where it is located, just two kilometers from Stari Grad. It is, in fact, the only sandy beach near Stari Grad. The beach has a large shallow area, making it popular among families with children. If you are arriving by car, you can leave it in the small parking lot not far from the beach.
Due to its isolated location, there are no additional facilities on the beach, so make sure to bring your own food and drinks.
Zaraće

On the southern side of the island, located between Hvar and Stari Grad, lies the small settlement of Zaraće, which may not boast a large population (only three residents!), but it can certainly boast its large pebble beach. The best way to reach Zaraće Beach is by car or taxi boat. This beach is surrounded by large rocks where sea salt forms naturally, and the nearby restaurant uses it in preparing its dishes. For those with an adventurous spirit, these rocks are perfect for jumping into the sea.
Mlini (Pakleni Islands, Marinkovac)
If you can’t find the perfect beach on the island of Hvar, take a taxi boat and sail to Marinkovac Island, which is part of the Pakleni Islands. There you will find the pebble beach Mlini. Once you arrive on the island, simply follow the signs leading to the beach. Although Mlini Beach can be crowded during peak season, the scene is completely different in September or October. During that time, the beach is ideal for anyone seeking solitude. The beach features a café, restrooms, and a restaurant serving traditional Croatian cuisine. It is also possible to rent sun umbrellas and loungers.
Pokonji dol

One of the most popular beaches in the town of Hvar is Pokonji Dol, named after the small islet that can be seen from the beach. It is located in a narrow bay and requires a short walk to reach.
This pebble beach has a long shallow area, making it ideal for those visiting with small children. If you forget to bring your own sun umbrella, you can rent one along with a sun lounger for a fee. The beach also has showers, several bars, and a restaurant.
Dubovica

Dubovica Beach is another popular beach near the town of Hvar. It is located in a picturesque bay that has attracted both local and international visitors for years. Unfortunately, there is no natural shade on the beach, so don’t forget to bring your sun umbrellas and high-SPF sunscreen. Nearby, there is a restaurant offering a quality selection of fish and meat dishes.
Mekićeva

Mekićevica, a small beach surrounded by rocks and fragrant pine forest, is located not far from the town of Hvar. The beach can be reached by taxi boat from Hvar or by walking along the coast from Pokonji Dol.
It is isolated from the main roads, which has made it popular among naturists as well as adventurers who enjoy jumping off the rocks into the sea. There is only one restaurant located near the beach.
