8 tourism trends that will change the way you travel in 2026.
December 15, 2025Hvar Island is known as a top tourist destination for party lovers and world-famous celebrities. However, the island also hides beautiful pebble and sandy beaches along its coastline that may charm visitors even more. Families with children will enjoy the sandy and pebble beaches on the northern side of the island, while adventurers will find beaches for themselves on the southern side. This time, we have selected 6 beaches on Hvar Island that we are sure you will love.
Maslinica (near Stari Grad)
Although the beaches around Stari Grad are not as popular as those near the town of Hvar, there are several that truly deserve the attention of both local and international visitors. One of them is Maslinica, named after the bay where it is located, about two kilometres from Stari Grad. This is the only sandy beach near Stari Grad. The beach has a large shallow area, making it popular among families with children. If you arrive by car, you can leave it in a small parking area near the beach.
Due to its isolated location, there are no additional facilities on the beach, so make sure to bring food and drinks with you.
Zaraće

On the southern side of the island, located between Hvar and Stari Grad, lies the small settlement of Zaraće. Although it cannot boast a large number of residents (only three!), it is known for its large pebble beach. The best way to reach Zaraće beach is by car or taxi boat. The beach is surrounded by large rocks where sea salt naturally forms, which a nearby restaurant uses in preparing its dishes. For adventurous visitors, these rocks are ideal for jumping into the sea.
Mlini (Pakleni Islands, Marinkovac)
If you cannot find a beach that suits you on Hvar Island, take a taxi boat and sail to Marinkovac Island, which is part of the Pakleni Islands. This is where the pebble beach Mlini is located. Once you arrive on the island, simply follow the signs leading to the beach. Although the beach can be crowded during peak season, the atmosphere is completely different in September or October. During this time, the beach is ideal for those seeking peace and solitude. The beach offers a café, toilets, and a restaurant serving traditional Croatian food. Sun umbrellas and loungers can also be rented.
Pokonji Dol

One of the most popular beaches in the town of Hvar is Pokonji Dol, named after the small islet visible from the beach. It is located in a narrow bay and requires a short walk to reach.
This pebble beach has a long shallow area, making it ideal for visitors with young children. If you forget to bring your own sun umbrella, you can rent an umbrella and sun loungers for a fee. The beach also features showers, several bars, and a restaurant.
Dubovica

Dubovica beach is another popular beach near the town of Hvar. It is located in a picturesque bay that has attracted both local and international visitors for years. Unfortunately, there is no natural shade on the beach, so be sure to bring sun umbrellas and high-protection sunscreen. Nearby, there is a restaurant offering quality fish and meat dishes.
Mekićeva

Mekićevica is a small beach surrounded by rocks and fragrant pine forest, located not far from the town of Hvar. The beach can be reached by taxi boat from Hvar or by walking along the coast from Pokonji Dol.
Its isolation from main roads has made it popular among naturists, as well as adventurers who enjoy jumping from the rocks into the sea. There is only one restaurant near the beach.
