Why Labadusa is not “just another cove on Čiovo”

Pine shade reaches right down to the edge of Labadusa Beach on the island of Čiovo

Shade that reaches the sea. Unlike most beaches in the Trogir area, the pine forest here extends all the way to the pebbles — which changes the whole beach day in July and August.

Čiovo Island has 18 registered beaches in Okrug Gornji alone. Labadusa is the one that makes people drive 2 kilometres along a narrow road where two cars can barely pass each other — and then come back again the following year.

The beach lies in Duboka Cove, on the southern side of the island, around 3 km from the centre of Okrug Gornji and 8 km from Trogir. It is not one compact beach, but a series of roughly 250 metres of coastline that changes every thirty steps: pebbles, then smooth sun-warmed rocks, then concrete platforms, then pebbles again.

Three faces of one beach

That variety is why Labadusa works for very different types of visitors. The pebble section is the part families with children tend to choose. The smooth rocks are for those who want to lie on a dry surface and jump into deeper water. The concrete platforms solve the problem of sun loungers and level ground. The sea is exceptionally clear, with a seabed of sand, stones and rocks — which is also why this is one of the better snorkelling spots in the Trogir area.

Why shade matters more here than elsewhere

The cove is south-facing. That means sun from morning until sunset, with no hillside shade — perfect if you want to tan, challenging if you arrive with small children in August. The pine forest that reaches right down to the water is therefore a practical detail, not just an aesthetic one: it is the only natural shade on the beach.

The southern exposure means all-day sun and views towards Šolta and Brač — but also that without the pine shade, the beach becomes almost unusable between 12 and 4 pm in August.

Labadusa is also one of the few beaches in the area with all-day infrastructure in one place: a konoba with a terrace above the sea, a beach bar and a campsite stretching along the cove. That means you do not have to go anywhere — but it also means crowds in July and August are very real. For a broader overview of the nearby coast, see our list of the most beautiful beaches in Trogir and Čiovo.

Did you know?

You will find the beach name in two versions — Labadusa and Labaduša. Both are in use: the campsite, konoba and Google Maps use “Labadusa”, while some Croatian guides write “Labaduša”. They refer to the same cove.

Questions and answers

Frequently asked questions about Labadusa Beach

Twelve questions visitors most often ask before arriving — with clear answers, no sugar-coating.

01 Where exactly is Labadusa Beach?

Labadusa, also written as Labaduša, lies in Duboka Cove, on the southern coast of the island of Čiovo, in the municipality of Okrug Gornji. The GPS coordinates are 43.4809° N, 16.2452° E.

Distances: around 3 km from the centre of Okrug Gornji, 8 km from Trogir, 13 km from Split Airport and 35 km from Split.

02 Is there an entrance fee for the beach, and how much does parking cost?

Entrance to the beach is free — Labadusa is a public beach.

You only pay for:

  • Parking: around €4–€6 for the whole day, depending on the zone and season
  • Sun loungers and parasols: according to the concession holder’s price list
  • Konoba and beach bar: according to what you order

Parking capacity is limited. In July and August, it fills up by 10 am. If you arrive later, expect to search for a space along the narrow access road — which is also the most common cause of traffic jams.

03 What is the access road like — can I come by motorhome?

The beach is reached by around 2 km of narrow local road, which is practically single-lane in places. Two cars can pass with care and slowing down — a motorhome or a car with a trailer requires an experienced driver.

Arriving by motorhome is possible, and campsite guests do it regularly, but:

  • Avoid arriving between 10 am and 1 pm, when traffic is heaviest
  • There are passing places on the narrow sections — use them to give way
  • If you are unsure, arrive early in the morning
