Before your trip, check out our tips for traveling with children.
1. Unforgettable experience - zipline in Omiš
Encourage your child and yourself to step out of your routine and experience what it’s like to soar more than 100 meters above the magnificent canyon of the Cetina River. Even if you’re not the adventurous type, the friendliness and professionalism of the expert guides will give you the confidence to try it. Before the “real thing,” you’ll practice on a small zipline where the guides will teach you the rules of conduct and how to use the equipment. Then, you’ll move on to 8 ziplines of various lengths. The minimum age to participate is 9 years.
The entire adventure lasts about three hours (including the walk to the ziplines), so bring water, sports shoes, and a positive attitude! This is an adventure that you and your little ones will remember for a long time!
Travel advice
Shake off the rush of adrenaline you’ve felt at dizzying heights and come back down to earth — to Omiš, a town that will delight you and your children with its stone streets and beautiful beaches. Omiš beaches stretch for more than 20 kilometers and offer various activities for children.
Grab an ice cream, find your spot on the promenade, and soak up the Mediterranean atmosphere of this charming pirate town.
2. All-day fun in the "Croatian Gardaland"
Dalmatia has gained another major attraction for families with children this tourist season. Not far from Biograd na Moru, the Fun Park Mirnovec has opened its doors. The park covers an area of 45,000 m² and consists of three themed zones – Pirate City, Space, and the Wild West – each offering exciting and entertaining attractions. In addition to these fun activities, the park also features several restaurants and cafés where you can relax after an adrenaline rush. Tickets are available at affordable prices.
3. Playing on the sandy beach Sakarun (Dugi Otok)
Sandy beaches are rare along the Croatian coast, which can sometimes disappoint visitors, especially families with children who aren’t used to pebbles. However, the sandy beaches that Croatia does have never fail to charm visitors, who love to return to them. One such beach is Sakarun, located on the northern part of Dugi Otok.
This 800-meter-long beach, made up of fine, almost white sand, is surrounded by a dense pine forest that provides plenty of shade where your children can escape from the sun. In addition, Sakarun is known for its wide shallow area, making it perfect for kids to play and swim safely.
You can also refresh yourself on this sandy beach — visit one of the cafés or restaurants located nearby. We recommend delighting your little ones with a train ride that runs from the nearby village of Božava to Sakarun every two hours.
Travel advice
In addition to Sakarun, there are several other sandy beaches with long shallow waters in Croatia. On Kvarner Bay, on the island of Rab, the most famous one is Paradise Beach (Rajska plaža); on Mljet in southern Dalmatia, which is also a national park, you’ll find Saplunara Beach; while in Split, you can enjoy a swim at the city’s Bačvice Beach.
4. Meet the dinosaurs at the Funtana Dinosaur Park
The heart of Istria hides Dinopark Funtana – the first theme park in Croatia. The park is located between Poreč and Vrsar and is unique because its various attractions are set within a natural forest environment.
From life-sized moving dinosaurs that “wander” around the park, to rides on them or on ponies, dinosaur bone excavation workshops, kilometer-long wooden walking paths, and a souvenir shop where you can buy a memento of your visit. This unusual yet educational park will surely delight your little ones.
5. Swimming in Skradinski buk (Krka National Park)
The image of the magnificent Skradinski Buk waterfall in the Krka National Park is one of the most iconic images associated with Croatia. And now, imagine swimming beneath that waterfall in crystal-clear water!
It is the most famous and the longest of all seven waterfalls in Krka National Park. The uniqueness of Skradinski Buk lies in its unusual formation, which is made up of 17 steps stretching over 800 meters, where the waters of the Krka and Čikola rivers merge and cascade down.
Give your children an unforgettable experience by swimming beneath the waterfalls. But don’t miss the opportunity to explore the entire park, which features magnificent viewpoints, souvenir shops, old watermills, and traditional Dalmatian taverns where you can relax and enjoy a meal.
6. Falconry center near Šibenik
You and your children have a unique opportunity to come face-to-face with magnificent birds that rule the skies at the Falconry Center in Dubrava – just 7 kilometers from the town of Šibenik. This is the only center of its kind in Croatia where you can see various birds of prey, from endangered griffon vultures to eagle owls.
The center also includes a rehabilitation station where lost or injured birds recover before being released back into the wild.
Knowledgeable staff will introduce children to the secrets and rules of falconry through various workshops, and you can also relax at one of the nearby cafés or restaurants. The perfect combination of fun and learning!
