Thanks to many events, festivals, and the proximity of the national park, the island has enjoyed great popularity in recent years, but it is still a suitable destination for a peaceful vacation where it’s easier to find a quiet corner than, for example, on the better-known tourist islands of Brač and Hvar.
To get to the island you don't have to wait in line for the ferry, as it is connected by a movable bridge built in the 19th century to the town of Tisno — a town unique in that, administratively speaking, one half is located on the mainland and the other on the island.

Tureta Fortress

If you love visiting the most important landmarks in every destination you find yourself in, the fortress Tureta is a must-see structure that will leave you speechless.
This time-defying structure was commissioned by Emperor Justinian around the 6th century, at a time when the Adriatic once again became an important transport route.
It is believed to have had a military function, specifically to control the sea route, and was abandoned during the medieval period.
Such structures were common in that era.
Specifically, Emperor Justinian devised the so-called “limes Maritimus”—in other words, a system of fortresses whose goal was to protect the sea route, and Fortress Tureta was one in a series of such forts.
It is special precisely because it is one of the better-preserved remains that faithfully reflect the methods of Byzantine construction.
Following more detailed archaeological research in the area near the fortress, numerous ceramic remains were discovered (e.g., amphorae).
What will also delight you is the breathtaking view of the Kornati archipelago and the Adriatic Sea.

The center of the town of Murter is unique in that it has managed to preserve its distinct historical appearance. The best testament to this is the Parish Church of the Holy Spirit, built in the 16th century and later restored in Baroque style in the 17th century. It's also worth visiting the Church of Our Lady of Health, built in the Mediterranean Baroque style.
To get insight into island life in the past, stop by the Old Mill, once an old oil mill, and now a hospitality venue.
Here, you can enjoy local delicacies and homemade wine, creating an authentic experience.
Murter is also known for its abundance of figs, many of which grow in the town center, so in the summer you can pick them and refresh yourself.

It’s the Raduč viewpoint, which is about 125 m high. In addition to the stunning view that stretches all the way to the Velebit mountain range, you'll also be intrigued by the tunnels that played an important role during World War II.

These are small boats that allowed the local population to navigate to the Kornati, primarily used for fishing and transporting goods.
They are among the rare types of boats that have preserved their original shape and kept wood as the primary construction material.

Thanks to its crystal-clear sea, Murter is a true magnet for all swimmers.
The beach you must visit is called Slanica.
It is also the most famous beach in Murter, with its sandy bottom and turquoise sea making a perfect combination for a summer holiday.
Since it’s a popular beach, you can expect crowds, but if you need more space you can head to the nearby rocks above which there is a pine forest that will offer shade and welcome relief from the heat.
The beach is convenient because it has a rich range of amenities nearby, including restaurants as well as a waterslide and a children’s playground.
