Kasjuni beach

Kašjuni Beach (Split)
Kašjuni Beach is one of the most beautiful city beaches in Split, located below the wooded Marjan Hill, about 3 km west of the city centre. The bay is sheltered and surrounded by greenery, so it feels much more like an “escape from the city” than Split’s most famous beaches.

In season, you’ll often find sunbeds/parasols, a beach bar, and basic beach services.
Activities: swimming and sunbathing, snorkeling along the rocky edges of the bay, SUP or kayaking when the sea is calm, short walks and viewpoints on Marjan Hill, and relaxing with a drink at the beach bar. For comfort, water shoes are recommended due to pebbles and possible sea urchins, and in peak summer arrive early because parking and the best spots fill up quickly.

.
Near Kašjuni, you’ll find several more great swimming spots on the southern slopes of Marjan Hill: the closest are Kaštelet (also known as Obojena svjetlost), a smaller pebble beach popular with locals, and Ježinac, a little bathing spot below the Meštrović Gallery that’s often chosen for a quick dip and sunset views. If you want more shade and a “forest” vibe, on the northern side of Marjan you’ll find Bene, one of the most pleasant beaches in summer thanks to the pine woods and a long, gently sloping shallows.

Where to stay:
If you’re looking for accommodation in Split near Kašjuni Beach, the best choice is apartments and rooms in the Marjan, Meje, and Varoš neighbourhoods — close enough for a walk or a short ride to the beach, yet quieter than the city centre. Another great option is staying in central Split / around the Riva and Diocletian’s Palace, because you’re near restaurants and nightlife, and you can still reach Kašjuni quickly (by car, taxi, or bus).
For more peace and easier parking, many people choose Spinut or Poljud, where you often get a better value-for-money location, and you’re just a few minutes from Marjan and Kašjuni. If you’re travelling with family, it’s practical to book accommodation with a kitchen, terrace, or parking, while couples usually prefer smaller apartments close to the old town.
The easiest way: on adriatic.hr, filter for Split and use the map to pick apartments close to the beach. That way you can quickly find accommodation near Kašjuni Beach that suits you.
Where to eat:
Here are a few reliable options (from Kašjuni toward Marjan and the city centre):
- Joe’s Beach Lounge & Bar (Kašjuni) – closest to the beach; food and drinks literally “on the sand”, often with music.
- Teraca Vidilica (Marjan – First viewpoint) – coffee/lunch/dinner with one of the best panoramic views of Split.
- Konoba Fetivi (Varoš/Matejuška) – Dalmatian classic seafood spot; also mentioned in the Michelin Guide.
- Konoba Matejuška (Varoš) – family-run konoba, fresh fish and a local vibe, close to the Riva.
- Bokeria Kitchen & Wine (Old Town) – more modern menu and an excellent wine list; very popular (reservation recommended).
- Zrno Soli (ACI Marina) – fine dining with marina views; in the Michelin Guide.
- Dvor (seafront, just outside the centre) – Mediterranean cuisine and a lovely garden by the sea; Michelin recommendation.
- Fife (Matejuška) – casual and more affordable, big portions; great for a quick local “marenda”.
What to see:
- Marjan Forest Park: walking trails through pine woods, hidden coves, and a calmer “green” side of Split.
- Marjan viewpoints (e.g., Prva vidilica): fantastic views of the city and sunsets.
- Diocletian’s Palace (Old Town, UNESCO): the heart of Split—narrow streets, the Peristyle, and the underground cellars.
- Cathedral of Saint Domnius + Bell Tower: climb the bell tower for panoramic views over the city and harbour.
Quick & easy bonus: take a stroll along the Riva and through Varoš (the old neighbourhood by Marjan) — one of the nicest routes before dinner in the centre.
What to do:
- Swimming and sunbathing (arrive early in summer to avoid the crowds).
- Snorkelling along the rocky edges of the bay (mask + fins).
- SUP / kayaking when the sea is calm (rentals are often available in season).
- A walk through Marjan Forest Park (shade, pine trees, peace and quiet).
- Viewpoints and sunset from Marjan (a short hike, amazing photos).
- Cycling or running on Marjan’s trails.
- Drinks and a relaxed beach bar vibe after a swim.
Other information:
Kašjuni can get very crowded in summer, so it’s best to arrive early or come in the late afternoon. Because of the pebbles/rocks and the quicker drop-off, it’s a good idea to bring water shoes and keep an eye on children. If the wind picks up, the sea can get rougher — but a walk through Marjan and its viewpoints is a perfect alternative.
