Castles in Croatia – a guide through history and the most beautiful locations
December 10, 2025The sixth largest Croatian island of Korčula is the island of Marco Polo, Pošip wine, the Moreška sword dance, as well as sandy and pebble beaches of unmatched beauty. The 182 kilometers of Korčula’s indented coastline hide many seaside surprises for those who decide to explore this popular tourist destination.
On the flatter northern side of the island, you’ll find pebble beaches, while the steeper southern coast is home to sandy ones.
Book accommodation on Korčula and don’t forget to get ready for a full day of enjoyment on its many beaches.
1. Proizd Beach on the islet of Proizd

In 2007, the beach of the same name on the small island of Proizd, near Vela Luka, was declared the best beach on the Croatian Adriatic. It’s no wonder, considering the sea here is crystal clear and has an unreal turquoise hue. The beach is surrounded by a pine forest, which you must walk through to reach the shore. The beach itself is pebbly, but it is also surrounded by large, flat rocks that create an even more romantic atmosphere.
Proizd is uninhabited, making it ideal for those who wish to experience the wild beauty of Mediterranean nature. A small boat runs several times a day from Vela Luka to Proizd, and the trip takes about 30 minutes. Be sure to explore the other beaches on this islet — we guarantee they won’t disappoint you. Escape the summer crowds and relax on this paradise island.
2. Pupnat Port

According to many, the beach in Pupnatska Luka is one of the most beautiful on the island of Korčula. The sea is so clear that it appears transparent, surrounded by lush green forest, creating a stunning contrast between shades of green and turquoise. The beach is located 15 kilometers from the town of Korčula. Despite its seclusion (accessible via a narrow, unpaved road), this beach doesn’t lack amenities. You can refresh yourself at a nearby restaurant above the beach, rent sun loungers, and if you come by car, there is a paid parking lot close by.
3. Banje city beach in Korčula

If you’ve booked accommodation in the town of Korčula and are looking to cool off from the summer heat, take a stroll along the waterfront to the Banje city beach. Although it can get a bit crowded during the season due to its proximity to the town center and a nearby hotel, this pebble beach offers plenty of amenities, making it ideal for families with children and for anyone who enjoys spending the whole day by the sea.
4. Vela Pržina Beach (Lumbarda)

This sandy beach in the village of Lumbarda, just a 15-minute drive from Korčula, is one of the most popular beaches in Croatia. During peak season, it can get quite busy, but if you’re an early riser or enjoy night swimming, you’ll find it much quieter.
5. Istruga Beach (Istruga Bay)

Unlike other beaches on our list, Istruga Beach, located in a bay of the same name near the village of Brna, is known for its healing mud. However, if you’re not in the mood for a mud therapy session, don’t worry — enjoy the sandy shore while relaxing in the shade of pine trees, playing with your kids, or joining a game of volleyball on the nearby court. If you get hungry, you can stop by the nearby restaurant and try some delicious local seafood specialties. Bon appétit!
6. Bilin žal Beach (Lumbarda)

Another Lumbarda beach, and a sandy one too, is also very popular among families with children. However, there is no natural shade on Bilin Žal, so be sure to bring umbrellas or rent them on the beach and apply plenty of sunscreen. The beach is suitable for a full day’s stay, as there is a café, restaurant, and supermarket nearby.
